Window Cleaning – A Hobby or an Obligation

·

We recently went to visit a friend of my wife’s for lunch. Carla invited us into the living room, and we sat down to talk and have a drink. As we were talking, I was looking around. The house was simple, with little furniture piled up but generally decent. Carla was telling different stories from her daily life. She had two older children who lived with their families in another city. She complained about how difficult it was for her because she was alone, and maintaining this two-floored house was impossible. I asked her why she didn’t find a woman to help her with the cleaning. She replied that she did not trust random people. There are valuables in the house, and she is afraid they will steal them. But the worst thing for her is that her windows needed cleaning, and she couldn’t do the job. She said cleaning takes a lot of time and effort and always postponed this task.

Exterior home window cleaning

I know this is one of the most annoying and tiring household chores for many people, especially when they are as high as in the case of Carla’s house. Besides, even if she does, she’s not happy because there are always stains, lines, and smudges, and the windows don’t have the shine they need. But this happens to every homeowner, and it’s not her falls.

Carla’s windows were filthy outside, which spoiled the house’s excellent look. My wife told her it wasn’t a job for a woman alone, and Carla wasn’t young either. She pointed out that we both took care of our household chores at home and did not forget to mention that cleaning windows is my task because I do it much better, and I enjoy it -moreover, I even find it relaxing. It takes a lot of effort for my wife to get up and down, change the water, wipe, try to reach inaccessible places, and finally, when the windows look shut instead of shining, she gets angry. She is happy that I am ready to take up this chore.

But no matter how much we procrastinate, they must be cleaned someday. We told Carla that there were suitable people who would be happy to cancel her. And if you are afraid of valuables at home, this is not justified, because cleaning companies are fair, they come as a team and carry out the activity very organised. The company guarantees that there is no danger of abuse. Many people take advantage of their services. We recommended a well-known home cleaning company, which we were very pleased with when we called them a few months ago.

After some hesitation, Carla agreed. A few days later, the team came to Carla’s home. She said the cleaning took only 3 hours and everything went very well. The people were speedy and skilful. They even cleaned the blinds. When she saw the results, she regretted not calling them earlier. Now Carla is calm because she expects her daughter to come with her family in a week. So she will not be ashamed of dirty windows. It became clear to Carla that paying professional window cleaners was far safer than risking her health.

Did you know that:
The exterior of the windows is constantly exposed to the environment and therefore needs reliable maintenance. Especially with large windows, cleaning is not easy at all. Here are some things people should keep in mind if they want to clean their windows:

  • There is a wide variety of glass cleaners. Everyone chooses what to use. But some of them are low-quality chemicals. So I advise you to choose the cleaning products well.
  • Clean the windows with a suitable detergent and a microfibre cloth. Then go to the windows. That way, they will stay clean. If there are drops left on the windows, wipe them.
  • Do not use newspapers or paper! Their use leads to unwanted side effects, staining or ink residues on the glass. Cleaning with moss-free window towels and wipers does a more reliable job.
  • If construction debris and latex are on the windows, use a suitable wide blade, then rub with a window mop and wipe off the water with a windshield wiper.
  • Change the water often. Sometimes people try to wash all their windows without changing the water; they rinse the mop, windshield wiper or microfibre cloth. So you risk smearing the windows, not cleaning them.
  • Always clean at the time of day when there is not much sun shining. The reason is that it could quickly dry out the remnants of water and leave unpleasant marks. That will have the opposite effect.
  • Use special tools. You can safely trust the brushes people often use in car washes to clean car windows. They have a double-sided nozzle consisting of a soft sponge with which you can easily apply the necessary detergent and a flat harder rubber part to remove water traces from the windows.

And yet:
Seek help from professionals. However, cleaning windows is not an easy task. There are so many things to consider to achieve flawless results.
